The Corcovado train at a glance
The cog train runs from the station in Cosme Velho up the mountain towards the monument. It opened in 1884, decades before the statue existed, and it already carried visitors to Corcovado then. Today it is one of the park's named ways to reach the statue.
The adult ticket costs BRL 134 in 2026. It covers the return trip and entry to the monument, so there is nothing more to pay at the top. The operator publishes one adult price and no separate high and low season table. This is an independent guide, not the train operator, and the figures below come from the operator's own pages.

Hours and departures
Two published times differ slightly. Check the current timetable before you go.
| Item | What is published |
|---|---|
| Regular service | Daily 08:00 to 18:00, a train every 20 minutes |
| Park operating rules | Station operation until 19:00, with 19:00 as the last trip down |
| Extra departures | Special trips are possible according to the sales schedule |
| Weekly rest day | None listed |
| Check-in | At least 40 minutes before the booked departure |
Do not read the later time as a last trip up. Plan your return from the top well before 18:00, and allow for changes caused by technical problems or weather. The operator says both can alter departures.

What the escalator works change
The train still runs. The work is at the monument.
The train is not shut down
The works that began on 3 August 2026 affect access at the monument, not the cog railway itself. The escalators are out of service, and the planned end is late May 2027.
Half the visitors at a time
The park cut the number of people allowed at the top at the same time by 50 percent. Expect waiting even with a ticket, and choose a time slot rather than arriving unplanned.
Lifts and 80 steps
Three lifts run between the first and second levels. Above them, 80 stone steps lead to the statue. From the point where you leave the train, walking everything on foot is 220 steps in total.
Help with stairs
The park lists 5 stair vehicles and 5 stair chairs, operated by trained staff. Vehicles take up to 150 kg including a standard wheelchair, chairs up to 130 kg. They do not run in rain or on wet ground. Ask the operator before the visit.
Tips for the day
Pick a time slot that suits the weather. The operator of the vans suggests the afternoon from 14:00 for fewer visitors, but that is not a rule for better views. Clouds can sit on the summit in any month, so look at the forecast on the day and keep your plan flexible. The Corcovado page explains more about the view.
The train can also be the way down after a hike. For walkers the park lists a ride downhill for BRL 37 on one page and BRL 35 on another. If you plan that, read the hike page and the getting there page first.
Allow time for the whole trip, not only the ride. The station, the check-in 40 minutes before departure, the time at the top while visitor numbers are limited and the way back all add up. Do not book a flight or a dinner tightly around it.
Corcovado train: frequently asked questions
How often does the Corcovado train run?
The operator lists a departure every 20 minutes between 08:00 and 18:00, with special trips on top. Technical issues or weather can change that, so check the timetable before you go.
How much is the Corcovado train in 2026?
BRL 134 for adults, with the return trip and monument entry included. Children 7 to 11 pay BRL 107, and children up to 6 travel free.
When should I arrive at the station?
At least 40 minutes before your booked departure. Late arrivals travel only if there is space on another train.
Does the train still run during the escalator works?
Yes. The works are at the monument and have no effect on the cog railway. The number of visitors at the top is halved, so expect limits and book a time.
Can I walk down after the train?
The trails exist, but they are steep, and the park's rules do not allow pedestrians on the summit road. Use the marked trail only, in a group and in daylight. See the hike page.
Does the ticket guarantee a view?
No. The ticket covers the ride and entry. Clouds can hide the statue and the city on any day.
